2010 Bird and Wildlife Courses

in Gwent and Glamorgan


Birds of Coast, Estuary and Sea at Newport.

Starts Monday 18th January 2010

Birds of Gardens Woods and Fields at Newport.

Starts Sunday 17th January 2010

A course for many: whether complete novice or wanting to improve skills and identify even more birds for yourself. The course aims to provide the fundamental knowledge underlying a good identification whilst getting to practise new found skills in a friendly like minded group. Five Sundays at Newport Wetlands Reserve Centre (Lakeside Suite) between 1pm and 3pm, every TWO weeks, starting 17th January. That is: Jan 31st, Feb 14th and 28th as well as March 14th.


There will also be 5 field trips at various locations across South Gwent, on: Jan 31st, Feb 14th & 28th, March 14th and one in April to be agreed with the group members at the start of the course.


Numbers are limited to just 14, so please check places are available with admin staff at Cardiff Centre for Life Long Learning ( Tel: 029 20 870000 ) before sending in your completed enrolment form. Please also send me (Ian Smith) an email to let me know that you have sent your enrollment form off and I will send you more information.



Introduction to Birdwatching and Bird Song

26th to 28th March 2010

A gentle introduction to our resident bird species and their confusing (?) songs. Aimed at beginners or those wanting to get back up to speed with the resident species just before the confusion of yet more species flying in from Africa !


Wildlife and Landscapes of the Gower

21st to 24th May 2010

The Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to some fascinating wildlife and plants, amongst the cliffs, bays, and heathland commons that the area is well known for. Easy strolls will lead us to discover more.


Introduction to Dragonflies, Butterflies and Moths

2nd to 4th July 2010

An introductory course about these amazing insect groups, in this region noted for its wildlife hotspots and high species diversity.


Landscapes and Wildlife of Central South Wales

1st to 6th August 2010

If you enjoy visiting or easy strolling through dramatic landscapes in arguably the most diverse region of the UK, whilst learning about their origin and natural history, then this course is for you.


Coastal Birdwatching with Wader & Gull Identification

22nd to 24th October 2010

Discover the large diversity of birds at varied coastal sites and learn how to separate the species in those confusing bird groups of Waders and Gulls.



 

All elements of these courses are designed around people’s requirements and all aspects of accessibility will be met wherever possible.
