Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Snow Bunting
Fairly quiet afternoon soon picked up with fieldfare spotted (DW/AS). Also seen as we proceeded 1 chiffchaff (contact call), minimal migration with only 2 bullfinches high up, 1,148 starlings feeding in the first field and joined later by 500+ more, female sparrowhawk, light coloured buzzard, 2 little egrets, 17 curlew (more on the mudflats), 126 lapwing, 55 Canada geese, 2 kestrels, one joined briefly by a male peregrine (the female was sat on the grass after consuming a meal), 2 grey herons, cormorant, 23 snipe, 38 shoveler, 4 ravens, pair of stonechats, good numbers of pied wagtails, 25 common redshank, 2 greenshank and 2 stunning spotted redshanks together, 2 wigeon and 2 stock doves. At the 3rd hide I was thrilled to relocate the snow bunting that Dan had found earlier in the week. We watched it feeding on the mud on the edge of the lagoon directly in front of hide 3 (ideally viewed from the far right end of the hide as it seems to prefer to feed tucked in close to the bank on the left). It looks to be an adult male, stunning little bird. 3 red admirals also seen.
