Sites

Gwent is a fairly small and essentially rural county of about 137,000ha.  Despite its modest size it has a good range of bird habitats including moorland, lowland heath and bog, broadleaved and coniferous woodlands, farmland, sizeable rivers, numerous open water bodies, coastal levels reclaimed from the sea in historic times, estuarine coast and one very small, but ornithologically significant island.

Descriptions of the 55 sites marked in the map are given in Birdwatching Walks in Gwent, available from the GOS library which can be accessed during indoor meetings.
