9 Snipe seen in one clearing in the reeds during snow then, around 1130, a group of 12 Snipe seen circling the area.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Visited Uskmouth today (10.3.04) at high tide, walking around the lagoons, up Farmfield Lane finishing at Nash. Among the birds noted 1 Great Crested Grebe, 8 Little Grebe, of which 4 if not five were calling from different parts of the lagoons at the same time. 1 Little Egret, 6 Mute Swan (1 sitting on the nest), 94 Shelduck, 76 Wigeon, 41 Teal, 2 Pintail, 7 Gadwall, 56 Tufted Duck, the male Ring Necked Duck still on south west lagoon, 16 Pochard, the hybred on north east lagoon, 1 male 3 female Goldeneye, male Hen Harrier over north east reed beds, 7 Water Rail calling, 11 Moorhen, 55 Coot, 1 Pheasant, 2 Lapwing, 11 Curlew, 11 Cettiā€™s Warbler singing, 1 Stonechat, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Fieldfare, 8 Long Tailed Tit, 12 Reed Bunting, and at Nash 1 group of 19 Magpies, and another group with 9.

Castle Meadows, Abergavenny

Main Sighting:
Chiffchaff seen again this morning in trees by bridge at end of Ysbyty field. Possibly an over-wintering bird, as it was not calling, and a Chiffchaff was seen last month on the meadows.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Late Sunday afternoon, excellent views of male & female Hen Harrier over ash ponds. Also distant Short-eared Owl, Goshawk, Sparrowhawk. Two Peregrines hunting Starling flock, and several spectacular views of Bittern in flight.

Peterstone Wentlooge

Main Sighting:
Visited Peterstone this morning at high tide (8.3.04), walking from the gout, and Pill to the village. In the Gout 1 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 4 Mute Swan, 4 Coot, 60 Knot, 240 Common Redshanks, 160 Black Tailed Godwits, and I Merlin. Noted while walking down the coast, 2 Little Egrets, 67 Shelduck, 170 Teal, 103 Wigeon, 70 Mallard, 1 Buzzard, 90 Grey Plover, 2 Oystercatchers, 30 Curlew, and 330 Dunlin

Bulmore Lakes

Main Sighting:
Walked from Bulmore Lakes today (7.3.04) back into Caerleon. A very good variety of birds about; on the lakes 6 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Mute Swan, 14 Canada Geese, 29 Teal, 2 male Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 13 Tufted Duck, 6 Pochard, 1 male Goldeneye, 1 male Goosander, 17 Coot, and a single Stonechat. While walking back to Caerleon 134 Teal, 21 Shoveler, 2 male 2 female Goosander, and another female south of Caerleon Bridge, 5 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, a male Sparrow Hawk seen at very close quarters in chase of a Great Tit, 1 Common Gull, 1 Marsh Tit, 4 Long Tailed Tits, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Jay, and 3 Raven.
