GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Visited Goldcliff late morning (18.11.03) to catch the tide. A little blustery for the passerines, and rather quiet. Counted 4 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan, 25 Shelduck, 16 Mallard, 98 Teal, 149 Wigeon, 4 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, and 1 Kestrel. On the shore, 35 Curlew, 17 Oystercatchers, and flying west, 27 Black Tailed Godwits.

Peterstone Gout

Main Sighting:
Impressive count [approx] of 250+ Black-tailed Godwits at Peterstone Gout in Gwent today 12:30 - 13:30, by far the most I'sve seen at the site. Also present:50+ Curlew, 100+ Redshnk, Dunlin, Knot and Grey Plover too distant and tightly packed to count w/o a scope; 70 Oyc, 40 Wigeon, 50 Shoveler, Teal [loads], 4 Little Grebe in the lagoon and 2 Little Egret, one of which was an imm.

Great Grey Shrike still present this morning at Wentwood, first at the Five Paths clearing then at Nine Wells, but very mobile.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Visited Uskmouth briefly during the evening of 16.11.03 viewing the easterly lagoons only. The male Ring Necked Duck still present along with 31 Tufted Duck, 2 Pochard, 7 Mallard, 6 Teal, 2 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 2 Water Rail heard, 27 Moorhen, 74 Coot, 8 Cetti'ss Warbler singing, and 2 Stonechat.

Sunday 16th Nov. MERLIN and PEREGRINE seen from 'sFarmers arms's car park! Lagoons very quiet but 660 WIGEON in Pill and fem/imm BLACK REDSTART flycatching from roof of farm buildings near Goldcliff pt.

Wentwood

Main Sighting:
Clearing between Cadira beeches and Nine Wells held 3 willow tits, 2 marsh tits, 1 flyover goshawk, 7 redpoll and 15 siskin. No sign of Great Grey Shrike between 10 50 and 15 00. A shrike did show for an hour in the clearing by the roadside near Little Oak. Sadly it had gone by the time I got there.

Newhouse to Mathern Pill

Main Sighting:
60+ Lapwing feeding on foreshore, 30ish Dunlin,Redshank,Curlew,small group of Wigeon,2 Green woodpeckers,2 Merlin,1 Sparrowhawk,1 Buzzard, flocks of Linnet,M.pipit,Fieldfare and Redwing,5 Reedbunting. Of interest Lapland buntings seen on opposite shore this weekend at Aust, Northwick and further down channel at Clevedon. Female Blackcap in garden.

Wentwood

Main Sighting:
GREAT GREY SHRIKE sat morn,seen about 9.30am in the clearing between Cadira Beeches and Nine Wells picnic site (ie; on the east side of the road) but typically mobile. Also small no.s Redpoll, 1+ Crossbill, Willow tit etc.
