GOS Photographic Exhibition

GOS Photographic Exhibition – ‘Birds of Gwent’

Our organising team were delighted by the membership’s response to the recent call for submissions for the GOS photographic exhibition. With nearly 120 photographs received, we have been able to feature birds from all areas and habitats in the county. Many of the photographs received were of a very high standard and deciding which to include was not an easy process.  A huge thank you to all the talented photographers who submitted their work. Their collective efforts have made this exhibition possible, shining a spotlight on the array of wild birds we have in Gwent.

In the exhibition, we aim to celebrate the precious birdlife that lives in our area and to show why it is worth protecting and conserving. This is why among the seventy images we have shortlisted, we have included photographs of Curlew and Swift which the society is targeting as priority species and Nightjar, Dipper and Barn Owl – three species that are included in Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Ten vulnerable species campaign. Our hope is that visitors will enjoy the pictures of beautiful birds and feel inspired to get involved with monitoring and protecting our birds and the wider environment.

The exhibition is in the Main Gallery at The Riverfront in Newport and runs from 29th March to 26th April. There are a number of events and a café at The Riverfront so perhaps you could combine your visit with taking in a show or even move on to the Newport Wetlands Reserve for a spot of birdwatching. We do hope you are able to visit.

(The Riverfront, Kingsway, Newport, NP20 1HG. Open 9am—4pm everyday except Friday until 10:30pm)
