Llanwenarth

Main Sighting: Kingfisher
Kingfisher, 2 Dippers, 3 Grey Herons, 3 juv Mute Swans, 36 Mallard, 5 Goosander, 2 Cormorants and 3 Grey Herons on River Usk. Also a Clouded Yellow enjoying the warm sunshine and 2 Redwings. No sign of Little Owls.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Yellow legged gull
1 adult yellow-legged gull, 2 spotted redshank, 6 greenshank, 1 black-tailed godwit, 6 curlew, 20 snipe, 120 teal, 150 wigeon, shoveler, 1 pintail, 1 male stonechat and 1 kestrel

Main Sighting: Kingfisher
Very little water just a few pools but 1st Kingfisher in over 20yrs covering this local patch. Only other bird was a Moorhen.

Mynydd Llangattock

Main Sighting: Merlin
Female Merlin hunting over the moor at the east end of the mountain, crossing from Brecknock into Gwent. Also 2 Stonechats, Buzzard, Kestrel, 6 Meadow Pipits and 2 Ravens. Pheasants around Hafod Farm and Hafod Road.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Swallow
1 lone swallow flying home over hide 1. Large groups of redwings at the entrance flying around and in the adjacent fields, further along cettis warbler calling, chiffchaff, 2 gt black-backed gulls over and small movements of siskins. Hide 1: pair of spotted redshanks, 6 little egrets, 219 teal, 50 shoveler, 40+ common snipe, 207 wigeon, 5 greenshanks (3 more from the new platform), kestrel and sparrowhawk hunting. Platforms: 43 common redshanks, 1 black tailed godwit, 15 dunlin, 3 tufted ducks and 14 curlew feeding in the grass.

Pontypool

Main Sighting: Vismig
Pontypool vismig from house. 8.30-10am. 20 late house martin,240 redwing,286 woodpigeon,2 blackbird,4 song thrush,119 jackdaw,6 siskin,3 starling,1 greenfinch,5 chaffinch and my very first stock dove for the house/garden list. All birds heading North West.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Wheatears
Typical Mike, I missed the hen harrier again...To add to MJP sightings, 4 little egrets on the lagoons with 6 more out on the mudflats. 1 grey plover, 2 dunlin, 1 black tailed godwit, 1 little stint, 1 ruff, 1 spotted redshank, 2 little grebes and 248 lapwing. Male stonechat near to the new platform. At the sea wall was 7 wheatears mixed in with around 20 meadow pipits all feeding rigorously and 4 swallows feeding over the farm buildings.

Main Sighting: Great White Egret
Great White Egret 1 Pectoral Sandpiper 1 Marsh Harrier 1 female Hen Harrier 1 (ringed-tail) Buzzard 1 kestrel 1 Little Stint 1 Ruff 1 There are others which will no doubt be covered later by NJD.
