Main sighting: Tufted Duck

2 Tufted Duck on the river just above the Llanfoist bridge – 1st I have seen on the river . Also a Spotted Flycatcher and a Kestrel

Monnow flowing clear, but the Wye turning a murky algal green. Kestrel, kingfisher, heron, 2 buzzards, 20+swifts, 40 sand Martins, 2 garden warblers, song thrush, great spotted woodpecker, grey wagtail, 2 collared doves, moorhen and 4 chicks.

Hobby flew over our garden at 19:25.

One sang several times from bushes near the castle this morning

A place we don’t often visit, it is quite slog up from Bedwas. But we were rewarded with a Cuckoo seen calling Stonechat 3 Meadow Pipit 12 Skylark 8 Whitethroat 3 Willow Warbler 2 Linnet 8 Raven and a Robin with two young. Butterflies Speckled Wood and Small Tortoiseshell

Red Kite over Larkfield area of Chepstow at 17.40

2 Hawfinches in Llanwenarth Churchyard this morning . Also a Curlew in flight

Male singing and displaying by minor road.

Red kite being harassed by crow over fields between Llanishen and Trellech late afternoon.

Very excited to see these 3 cruising overhead this morning at around 8 am in a field between the old Severn bridge and the Wye near Chepstow.

Red Kite over Ynysyfro Reservoir at 13.00 and again at 13.40. Also a pair of Paid Wagtails have started building a nest in our works van! We’ve only been on site a couple of days so they didn’t mess about 😀
