Main sighting: Wood Sandpiper
Fantastic birding in Goldcliff at the moment with our resident Glossy Ibis alternating between the foreshore and Prior’s so a lot easier to see than when it disappeared between dawn and dusk. Also on Prior’s a Black Swan, 300+ Black-Tailed Godwits, 34 Dunlin, some Knot and a Greenshank mixed in. I saw a Green and some Common Sandpipers on Saturday but heard reports of a Wood Sandpiper so returned today. Checked from hide one and the successive platforms down to ‘Snipe’ overlooking Prior’s, but didn’t see any Sandpipers however looking back towards the first hide caught a glimpse of a Greenshank so I headed back there to find the Wood Sandpiper and two Green Sandpipers just off the near bank. They later moved towards the back of the island and disappeared up there.
