Main sighting: Red Grouse

At the east end of the mountain, a flock of nine grouse flew from Brecon into Gwent. Flock of eight Reed Buntings near Hafod Road

Main sighting: Pair of glossy ibis

Pair of glossy ibis, following a single bird sighted a year ago.

Main sighting: Dipper

42 species on my lockdown walk from home. Dipper on River Clydach on the edge of town near the top of the gorge. Male Goosander over our house is anew record for the garden list. Happy New Year.

Main sighting: Kingfisher

Short walk early afternoon Kingfisher gazing hopefully into the river. First species of the year was a Dunnock in the garden.

Pair of Blackcap perched up in garden hedge scrub between Caird and Green street this morning

flock of 50 +redwing feeding along hedgerow and on adjacent field

Main sighting: treecreepers

2 pairs of treecreepers – one in St Mellons golf club, the other at Peterstone golf club; so perhaps golf clubs have something to offer wildlife. Also large group (40) fieldfares enjoying the fareway. 6 little egrets, 2 pairs of swans, one grey heron and a buzzard at the site of the proposed Wentloog solar farm … kestrel at St Mellons railway line; also mistle thrushes (5), grey and pied wagtails together, and meadow pipit.

A group of 12 little egrets on the shallows between flooded river and the oxbow, also a pair of goosander and 2 little grebe

Redpoll, gsw, 2 wrens, 11 ravens buzzard, 70 common gulls

Main sighting: Lapwing

With the Avon Llwyd bursting it’s banks again for the 2nd time In 12 months and the first times.since 1986 .We are used to seeing the local birds particularly gulls on the fields but a first for me was seeing 18 lapwing and a little egret amongst them plus the usual goosander swimming on the field where the old sandmartin colony got washed away last winter .

Main sighting: Glossy Ibis

Roadside viewing saw the 2 Glossy Ibis feeding in the far left corner. Also noted were 2 pairs of Tufted Ducks and 3 pairs of Gadwall.
