Main sighting: Smew

9am visit. Dam – 31 tufted ducks and 1 great crested grebe. North side 1 male smew, lots of winter thrushes, Fieldfare, Redwing and mistle thrush. 1 male Bullfinch, 22 teal from hide.
Usual great tits, LTT, blue tits. 7 GBB gulls on far shore, 8 cormorant on floating platform with Heron. Pied wagtail.

Curlew showing well around 12 noon until 1pm other than that a Kestrel near Hide 2 for a short while and the usual geese and ducks.

Over 2000 pigeon on river side paddocks south of the town feeding under beech trees next to Afon Llwyd .probably nearer 2500 .

Male Smew still present at the north end of the reservoir along with three female Goldeneyes

Main sighting: Bittern

Good view of a bittern flying over reedbed for several hundred metres. At least three water rail squealing from reeds, 4 or 5 Cetti’s warbler. Female sparrowhawk along shore. Good mix of waders and waterfowl in the estuary. At Goldcliff lagoons, the glossy ibis showing well, male and female marsh harrier separately, peregrine on island on Priors. 22 avocet out on mudflats, good numbers of curlew and lapwing. Amazingly, still one swallow feeding near ‘tower house’.
