Main sighting: Cuckoo & Swift

2 Swift & Cuckoo just north of Wernddu golf course, Abergavenny

Main sighting: curlew and whimbrel

mixed whimbrel and curlew 15-20 of each; brent goose; whitethroat; reed warbler; 40 oystercatchers; buzzard hanging still in the breeze for several minutes

Main sighting: Juvenile Blackbird

A juvenile blackbird seen today . Possibly from the nest in a large hedge .

Reed Warbler in reeds, singing also.

Dipper, grey wagtail, a pair of mandarin ducks, 3 house martins

Main sighting: Peregrine

This is the 4th time I’ve seen a Male bird hunting the Wye in the past 3 weeks.

Main sighting: Shelduck

A pair of Shelduck were at Wentwood reservoir today (There’s only a small lake at the base of the tower at present ). No ducklings were seen so not sure if they’ve nested here. The drake was giving the local mallards a hard time, constantly harassing and actually attacking them.

Swift over Usk in the rain.

Main sighting: Red Breasted Merganser

Mixing with 5/6 Mallard then fishing, seen about midday

Main sighting: Yellow Wagtail

Yellow Wagtail (singing from top of dung pile in field). Whitethroat; Swallows; Wheatear (male). Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Chiffchaff’ – all singing.
