Main sighting: Curlew

THREE PAIRS of Curlew seen on a single traditional Gwent breeding site this morning thanks to a report sent to Curlew@gwentbirds.org.uk ! Now’s the time to find these stunning birds. Pls go out to look for them, listening for that haunting call, and report to the dedicated email address. Ask your friends to do so too – we need to find all Gwent’s breeding Curlews. Cettis calling, 3 chiffchaffs, 9 coot, 38 teal, 4 gadwall, skylark singing, 15 shoveler, 1 buzzard, 1 female marsh harrier, 33 crows flying across the pool, 4 little egrets, 1 heron, rooks, 1 common snipe and 5 lapwing.

Main sighting: Spotted Redshank

Spotted redshank still visible, feeding along the edge of the island from the redshank platform. Also of note, 3 grey herons, 4 little egrets, 3 singing chiffchaffs, pheasant, female kestrel, 2 buzzards, cettis calling, blue tits displaying, 2 skylarks singing, 1 ringed plover, reed buntings, 108 wigeon, shoveler, gadwall, only 4 lapwings on the lagoons, 3 cormorants, single dunlin in with 27 redshanks, 102 herring gulls on the foreshore and only 10 avocet, curlew, oystercatchers and a pair of stonechats. Other: comma butterfly.
